"I feel approximately 10,000 times better than when I was accepting insurance payments. Now instead of waiting for referrals from doctors most of my clients ARE doctors." S. Thomas, PT |

| Q:How do you know his patients recognize the
value? A:They "vote" by paying cash out of their pockets. |
The
Problem:
"I (Richard) had a busy
4-PT practice in central California. We were paying down our business
loan but pretty soon the doctors figured out how to eat a piece of our
pie. Our margins shrank while our paperwork grew. My time with patients
went up and time with pen and paper went up. I had to write more
letters to insurance companies and to justify even their shrinking
payments. My hourly wage went down and down."
In 2004 he discovered
Therapeutic Wealth. Today he easily earns over $120,000 with no
employees and no paperwork in the evenings. When I talked to him he had
just returned from a seven-day cruise with his wife. He enjoys chatting
with other therapists (not his employees) during the 30-minute break he
gives himself after every hour-long session. Some of his patients
voluntarily pay him more than his $120/hour fee.
Then there was Phil who found himself needing physical therapy to cope
with the extensive hassles of a non-cash practice. He discovered the
secrets of Therapeutic Wealth and now is planning a month-long vacation
to Europe next summer. His physical therapy clients pay him cash up to
$200/hour. He treats anyone from "soccer moms" to political figures.
With Therapeutic Wealth you will learn how to build a business where
your patients cheerfully pay you every time they come for therapy. They
pay me even before the therapy session. If you have a PT practice
already this will teach you how to transform your practice into a
cash-pay clinic and your life into one overflowing with therapeutic
wealth.
My friends and other nationally known PT's didn't think that I could
find 19 other physical therapists making a good living without the
"aid" of the third "party". I found otherwise. Below are the
contributors to our book. I like to call them our "Therapeutic Wealth
Therapists" .

A short time ago while
doing home-health "opens" for a nationally-known company, I would fill
out the consent forms, get the 6 signatures from the patient, list all
the medications on a company form down to the milligram, then pull out
the mother of all forms - - - , the OASIS. "You'll want to throw me
out, and I'll want to throw myself out before I get done with the
paperwork at the first visit", was my standard scheduling/pre-visit
warning. Arriving at the OASIS form I would look up at the patient who
I would always have reclining or able to recline, give a half-hearted
smile and "cheerfully" pipe, "I'm down to the last twenty-two pages
Mrs. Smith?" Realizing there had to be a better way, I started my own
company www.AtHomeMEDrehab.com and minimized unnecessary paperwork.
This web site is dedicated to helping physical therapists (occupational
therapists can also use this information) attain the "good life"
intended for us.

/ Compiler A: THIRD PARTY PAYERS! Back in Scottsdale twelve
years ago I had an involved Parkinson's client who wanted help to go in
his pool. As medicare would no longer pay for that I charged $60/30
minutes (a fictitious time as I always went over). When I stated I
would need to write a note, the client's sweet wife said, "I'm not
going to pay for a NOTE". To see pictures browse the
www.AtHomeMEDrehab.com site and you'll find it. If clients were paying the
bill directly who could afford to pay for two and a half hours of
paperwork? Even if they could afford it, who in his or her right mind
would pay for it? Having participated in the 3rd party payer "dance" I
have come to realize how easy it is to let 3rd party payers control us.
If the client may indeed benefit from poorly reimbursed modalities when
acutely injured but the 3rd party reimburses us less than the cost how
easy it is to leave out the ultrasound and cold packs, take less time
to listen to the patient, and rush them to exercise. It is tempting to
use up the allowed number of visits when in fact the client could be
getting most of the benefit from a lesser frequency and fewer visits? Q: How do clients value our
services when they expect to get them for FREE? How many visits have we done for which the patients pay cash at the time of service? I'm sure it's less that the number that were rendered for "free". FREE is the highest price. I am convinced that we must become able to offer such incredible value that our clients are willing and eager to pay out of pocket in order to receive them. I and other progressive therapists are using this model. The secrets of how to provide cash-pay physical therapy are being published in my book. |
